Vlad Sokhin

Documentary photographer (Russia/Portugal), based in Sydney, Australia. In his work Vlad covers social, environmental and cultural issues around the world, including post-conflict and natural disaster zones.


Vlad was born in Russia in 1981. He studied photography in IADE Creative University (Lisbon, Portugal); photojournalism and documentary photography in TCI Emerging Photographer Program. He participated in the XXV Eddie Adams Workshop (USA, NY).



Represented by German "Agentur Focus" (Internationally) and "Grinber Photos" (Russia and CIS). Collaborates with the United Nations Human Rights, UNICEF, Amnesty International, Child Fund Australia and other NGO's.



In 2010-2011 Vlad worked on an independent photo-documentary project “The Spirits of Mozambique” about spiritual traditions of Mozambicans.

Since 2012 Vlad has been documenting violence against women in Papua New Guinea for his photo project "Crying Meri".

In 2012-2013 he worked on a documentary project "RESTAVEKS: Child Slavery in Haiti".

Vlad is fluent in English, Russian and Portuguese and has conversational Spanish and Papua New Guinean Pidgin. He is currently learning Arabic and French.

2012 - 3rd place in Portuguese award of Photojournalism "Estação Imagem | Mora" ("Environment" category).

2012 - Winner of the Street Photography Festival's Competition (Russia) in "Best street photograph" nomination.

2012 - 3rd place in Russian "Best Photographer" award ("Reportage" category).

2012 - Finalist of the Kolga Tbilisi Photo Award 2012 (Georgia).

2011 - Grand Prize (nomination “photo-stories”) of the Uglich 5th International Photo Festival’s competition (Russia).
