Born in Porto San Giorgio (Italy) in 1953, Claudio Marcozzi begins photographic research early in the eighties, after experiencing painting and political satire. In these years he has been experimenting with different aspects of photography, from portrait to landscape, from sport to nude, always aiming at expressing his own artistic interpretation. In 1985 he undertakes reportage and in 1987 he travel through Brazil (from the Amazon rainforest to Rio de Janeiro), chosen as Vivitar Reporter for a promotional campaign. From 1990 to 1992 he works with Mario De Biasi, Mauro Galligani, Giorgio Lotti (the school of «Epoca» weekly magazine, with which he collaborates later on), and with Romano Cagnoni and Franco Fontana.
Since 1991, he is a professional photographer and deals mainly with reportage, popular traditions and researches on the landscape. He also realize photographic campaigns and publishing projects for touristic promotion. After a period of collaboration with photo-agencies (Granata Press Service in Milan and Goro International Press in Tokyo) his work is now distributed directly to the press.
He has been given several awards including the Italian Grand Prix for Landscape (Milan, 1992), the Prize of the Council of Europe for his work about inland waters in Europe (Strasbourg, 1993), the Fuji Euro Photo Press Award for Italy (Düsseldorf, 1993), Humanity Photo Award by CFPA and Unesco(Beijing 2002, Guangzhou 2009). His pictures are collected or stored by many institutions (National Museum of Photography in Brescia, Israel Museum of Photography in Tel-Hai, Unesco in Paris, UN/UNEP in New York, Rencontres Images in Toulon, Italia-Brazil Association in Recife, Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo, Fondazione Mazzotta in Milan, Sharja Art Museum of the United Arab Emirates, Fuji Collection in Tokyo, the State Office for Tourism of the Republic of San Marino, the Lombardy Region, etc) and in private collections.
Main lectures was given at University of Siena (Science of Languages Department), Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, Fondazione Targetti Lighting Academy in Florence.
He organized and collaborated with events and festivals of photography, including the "Calabrese Week of Photography" in Cetraro (1992 and 1993), the Toscana Foto Festival in Massa Marittima (1993 and 1994), "Scanno dei Fotografi" in Scanno, where he was art director of the workshops.
Nowadays he alternates his work as a free-lance photographer and journalist with teaching photography in national institutes and workshops, including the fundamental "The Art of View", and continuing the artistic research. He collaborates with the monthly magazine "Fotografia Reflex" with articles about culture of photography, fine art market and international festivals.
